Another independent replaced an oil pressure sensor switch and the fault tripped again soon after. One independent service provided replaced one set of three times without eliminating the reappearance of the check engine lights. The faults have indicated a need for service on both which has been done (multiple times now). I believe there are two banks of components on two different sides of the engine. All the items you mentioned have been checked/replaced. As I look back on the service history both for the past two years and recently over the past 4 weeks. I do not have a turbo and may have very well named the wrong harness. 'Actuators' is likely me misspeaking in relation to the components of the system. But I'm led to wonder if the work that was done wasn't in the area to which the code applies. I'm not discounting the possibility of a faulty wiring harness, especially if rodents in the engine compartment have been a problem. Are these the parts that have been replaced? Also, the housing on the front of the left side head that the solenoid is mounted into has a small screen filter inside that can become blocked, and that too can cause the same code. The P0028 code is often caused by a defective oil pressure sensor switch, or the oil switching solenoid. I'm not sure what "actuators" you're referring to. The AVLS has oil switching solenoids, and oil pressure sensor switches. P0028 refers only to a malfunction in the the AVLS on Bank 2 (left/driver side in a LHD car). "VVT" refers to the AVCS which is the variable valve timing system they're two separate functions. P0028 is related to the Subaru AVLS, i.e., active valve lift system, or "VVL". Is it the 2.5 turbo? That would be odd because, as far as I know, P0028 is not a code for that engine. Over the various replacement of actuators, solenoids and switches the check engine light indicating the same primary fault would turn on and turn off (often following large changes in hot/cold or wet/dry weather) or conditions with high degrees of contraction/expansion.Ĭlick to expand. The part number for the harness cited in post #1 above (24020AE050) applies to the 2009 2.5 turbo engine, but there's no indication in your post of what engine is involved. I've been fighting mice and chipmunks in the engine area of the car for years. No harm in asking if a localized fix is possible. Visual inspection of the wiring (what is able to be seen) doesn't show an obvious break. One of the sub-codes does state to check the electrical connections for wear/integrity. The dealership checked the electrical connection and reported the signal was compromised and recommended replacing the entire wire harness. The warning light/fault code continues to reappear which hinted at an electrical/signal problem. All of the functional bits have been replaced and tested to ensure they are in good working order (all free by the way do to warranty). The codes have indicated that various functional pieces around the 2 banks of VVT actuators have been malfunctioning. Some additional information - I've been getting P0028 fault codes for around 2 years now.
